Littlebigplanet levels

Description

Little Planet in the present day, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

Little Planet is a small planet that resembles earth. It is mostly blue in color due to those parts being covered in water. Landmasses however, are depicted with greenish-brownish colors. Little Planet has many different natural environments, such as volcanos, caves and tropical lands. It also houses artificial areas, such as cities, warehouses and bases. So far, no people other than Animals have been shown inhabiting the planet.

In the past, Little Planet used to have more natural environments, with little civilization on it. Despite this, many industrial areas were already under construction. In the future, Little Planet became a polluted wasteland when Dr. Eggman re-wrote history in his own image. All the lakes were filled with chemicals, oil and/or radioactive waste, while other natural areas had been either mechanized or turned into factories whose operations backfired. No signs or life was present on the planet in this future. After Sonic the Hedgehog reverted the doctor’s actions however, the planet’s future changed to a futuristic utopia with no pollution at all. In addition, local factories would use more effective methods to avoid pollution, and the planet’s areas were filled with life and color.

Little Planet is known for hosting the Time Stones, mystic relics that allow their user to travel through time and re-write history. There are also Time Warp signs around the planet, which are used to enter the Time Warp and travel between different time frames on Little Planet (the present, the distant past, and an unfixed point in the future) using speed.

Trivia

  • All games’ online services were shutdown in Japan, mostly due to poor sales of the franchise in the country. Well that’s what they told us, but in reality they just updated the game to not let Japanese consoles access the server. I don’t know why they did this since all regions are connected to one server and it would not reduce the cost of the server. there are some rumors though, such as the translation team not wanting to work on the franchise anymore.
  • A common misspelling of the franchise’s name is «Little Big Planet».
  • Media Molecule did not produce Run Sackboy! Run!, LittleBigPlanet 3, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure.

Controlinators and Sackbots

A Sackbot can be controlled with a Controlinator by placing a Controlinator set to Receive on the Sackbot’s circuit board and having it receive signals from a Controlinator set to Transmit outside the Sackbot. Usually it’s used by placing a Tag to the Sackbot and Follower to a piece of invisible Hologram with an invisible Controlinator.
An important thing to note is that Controlinators placed on Sackbots’ circuit boards have several extra options.

  • You can feed inputs into Controlinator buttons. So, for instance, if you need a Sackbot to grab something, you would feed a signal into the input.
  • There is an additional option called Override Sackbot. This means that any action the Controlinator tells the Sackbot to do takes priority over the Sackbot’s tweaked actions.
  • You can use these tools to create your own custom playable character in LittleBigPlanet 3, without the complicated logic in LittleBigPlanet 2 with placing a following Controlinator and a number of other things.

Sonic the Comic

Main article: Miracle Planet (Sonic the Comic)

Tails and the Miracle Planet from Sonic the Comic #27. Art by Richard Elson.

In Sonic the Comic and its spin-offs published by Fleetway Editions, Little Planet is referred to as the Miracle Planet. although some also know it as «Little Planet». In this media, the Miracle Planet is a planetoid in orbit around Mobius. It appears for three days out of every month above Never Lake. Once, Dr. Ivo Robotnik cyber-formed the entire Miracle Planet in order to use use it as a power source for Metallix, the Metal Sonic. However, Sonic managed to defeat Metallix and restore the planet to normal by using a Time Stone.

Some time later, the Miracle Planet was taken over by the Brotherhood of Metallix. As such, it was once again covered in machinery, this time making it appear like a giant Metallix head. During this period, it was used as a staging ground for the Metallix’s attempts to conquer Mobius. However, their plans were thwarted by Sonic and the Chaotix, and the Miracle Planet was subsequently returned to normal yet again.

In the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics, Little Planet is the hosts to the Time Stones, and appears over Never Lake once a year for one month. It is closely kept as secret by citizens of Albion and the current king of Mercia Rob o’ the Hedge himself.

After the Super Genesis Wave re-wrote history, Little Planet and its history are now nearly identical to its game counterpart.

Unused Models

Walker

Creatures internally known as the «Walker». In-game, they would have been an early solution to a moving enemy. They were cut in favor of Creature Brains and Creature Legs, but you can still see references to them in the Creature Brain’s tweak menu icons. They are composed of two models: gamedata/mesh_library/non_player_characters/walker/walker_head.mol and gamedata/mesh_library/non_player_characters/walker/walker_chassis.mol.

collectable_egg.mol

gamedata/mesh_library/common_objects/collectable_eggs/collectable_egg.mol is a plastic prize egg that appears pink in-game. This was used for storing prizes in early versions of the game, but it was replaced by the Prize Bubble late in development. This is apparent because a rooster sound is played when all of the prizes in a level have been collected. In the PSP version of the game however, the rooster sound is replaced by bell chimes.

radio_tower.mol

gamedata/mesh_library/cosmos/radio_tower/radio_tower.mol is a radio tower. It is found in the cosmos folder alongside other pod-related assets, suggesting that it would have been found in the pod.

spring_sign.mol

gamedata/mesh_library/cosmos/spring_sign/spring_sign.mol is a springboard with an image on the front of it. In-game, the model has physics and bounces around. The note’s texture in-game is the red fist sticker. Like the radio tower, it is also located in the same folder as the other pod-related models.

glue.mol

gamedata/mesh_library/decorations/glue/glue.mol is a dab of glue. It was intended to be a tool used for sticking stuff together, as seen in early gameplay. In the final game, simply holding down the X button will glue an object. It appears light blue in-game.

BBQ Bot

A scrapped character who probably would have been used to explain the objectives of levels. Not much is known about them, but in some early footage they drop from the top of the screen and say «The person with the most sponges wins».

Their model was found in the LittleBigPlanet Deploy Build (Sep 17th, 2009 Prototype)

Дополнительные разработчики включали XDev Europe , Tarsier Studios , Supermassive Games , The Station и Testology.

Sony Computer Entertainment .

Gameplay

LittleBigPlanet 3 retains the same functions from all the previous LittleBigPlanet games, and the added Logic from LittleBigPlanet 2 as well. LittleBigPlanet 3 introduces 16 layers for the Create mode, allowing levels to have more potential and area.

Power-ups

Along with characters, there are new powerups in LittleBigPlanet 3.

  • Pumpinator- Allows Sackboy to blow and suck any light object.
  • Hook Hat — Allows Sackboy to attach to rails.
  • Illuminator — A flashlight-like tool.
  • Blink Ball — A tool like the Creatinator.
  • Boost Boots — Allowing Sackboy to reach high areas.
  • Popit Power-up — Allows Sackboy to use the Popit cursor, the Goodies Bag, and the Tools Bag in Play mode.

Trivia

  • Sackbots are made out of maple wood.
  • The Sackbot costume can be obtained in two ways:
    • Saving the costume via a Sackbot’s «Save Costume» option.
    • Completing the last level of LittleBigPlanet 2, Into The Heart Of The Negativitron.
  • Sackbots are a good way of sharing costumes in LittleBigPlanet 2.
  • Using random costume on two different Sackbots at the same time will result both Sackbots to have different costumes.
  • A Sackbot’s microchip’s size is irregularly off-grid size, until resized. Probably a left over artifact from the beta, where microchip’s sizes were not confined to a grid.
  • The White Wolf animation style from LittleBigPlanet 3 has no purpose in the story, but the appearance does match the costume Regal Wolf.
  • Sackbots don’t return as Objects in LittleBigPlanet Karting, but as CPU racers instead.
  • In the trailer for Sackbots, it may be a reference to Frankenstein in the opening part.

Retry

Should the player get stuck, they can highlight this option and hold . Their character will concentrate hard and then pop, only to reappear at the last activated checkpoint. This does count as a death, so it will subtract one life from non-infinite checkpoints and fail the criterion for acing a level (i.e. not dying), though it won’t trigger the 5% score penalty.

Every post-introduction level has a tutorial on how to use this feature, with the activated checkpoint past the obstacle. In most of the situations below, a sticker earned later in the game can be used on a sticker switch earlier than the obstacle that makes the obstacle passable without using the Popit.

  • LBP1 (First Steps) collapses a rope bridge, dropping players into the pit below. A sticker switch adds a bird so players can swing over.
  • LBP PSP (Walkabout) breaks a plank in two, dropping players into the pit below.
  • LBP2 (Rookie Test) retracts the bridge as the players cross it. A sticker switch makes Larry skip this phase, allowing players to move on to the stickers tutorial.
  • LBP PS Vita (First Steps in Loco-Motion) traps the players in a cage.
  • LBP3 (Needlepoint Peaks) drops jars on the other side of an ice cube bridge, causing the bridge to collapse. Players can alternatively use the Boost Boots to escape this pit.

History

Sonic the Hedgehog CD

Little Planet under Robotnik’s control, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Dr. Robotnik took notice of Little Planet when it appeared on Sonic’s world. Coveting its Time Stones and their ability to re-write history, Robotnik chained Little Planet to a mountain near Never Lake and began the construction of his fortress on the planetoid before turning his sights on obtaining the Time Stones. Also, by using Little Planet’s bizarre chronology to invade the planet in the Past with his robot transporters and Metal Sonic Projectors so that it would be under his control in the Future, Robotnik would transform Little Planet from a serene, untouched world into an ugly and bleak metal sphere.

Later, Sonic the Hedgehog went to Never Lake to watch Little Planet from there. To his surprise however, he found the planetoid in its miserable state and still chained to the nearby mountain. Thinking that Dr. Robotnik had something to do with this, Sonic traveled up to Little Planet along its chain. On Little Planet, Sonic discovered that he could restore the planet to its pristine state and free it from Robotnik’s control by removing Robotnik’s devices in the past and securing the Time Stones. Upon arriving in Collision Chaos however, Sonic met Amy Rose, a hedgehog girl who had come to Little Planet after predicting a destined encounter with Sonic there. Upon seeing Sonic, Amy instantly fell in love with him. However, Amy was soon after kidnapped in front of Sonic by Metal Sonic, an ultra-performance Badnik created by Dr. Robotnik, and the doctor’s newest enforcer. Sonic was thus left with the tasks of saving both Little Planet and Amy.

Little Planet being freed from Robotnik’s control, from Sonic the Hedgehog CD.

Making his way across Little Planet on his own, Sonic continued to free the planet’s areas one by one. Eventually arriving in Stardust Speedway, Sonic had a race against Metal Sonic. After winning the race, Sonic freed Amy from her restraints in Stardust Speedway and went to Metallic Madness, Robotnik’s base. There, Sonic had his showdown with the doctor. After Robotnik was defeated, a chain reaction was triggered that caused the metallic shell around Little Planet to collapse. After Sonic then got Amy and himself back to their world, Little Planet disappeared from sight in a trail of stars in the shape of Sonic’s head, now freed from Robotnik’s control and with a peaceful destiny to follow.

Sonic Generations

Main article: Metal Sonic (Sonic Generations)

In the console/PC version of Sonic Generations, the Bad Future version of Stardust Speedway from Little Planet got transported to White Space as a side-effect of the Time Eater’s time-traveling. There, Classic Sonic had a battle against Classic Metal Sonic. After defeating Classic Metal Sonic, Classic Sonic acquired his Chaos Emerald.

When the Time Eater later got destroyed, Stardust Speedway was seemingly return to its rightful place in the timeline.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II

In Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode II and Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode Metal, Little Planet made its annual return to Sonic’s world. Seeking to retrieve Metal Sonic’s body in Stardust Speedway, Dr. Eggman sent a drone to Little Planet and used it to rejuvenate Metal Sonic, whom Eggman then guided back from Little Planet to Eggman’s base. Afterward, Eggman began plotting to build a new version of the Death Egg, named the Death Egg mk.II, around Little Planet. Similar to a Dyson sphere, this Death Egg was seemingly designed to absorb the energy of Little Planet; this was apparently the method which Eggman used to power his new space station.

During their adventure to stop Eggman’s scheme, Sonic and Tails could see Little Planet in the sky above Sylvania Castle Zone Act 3 and during their battle with the Egg Serpentleaf. When they confronted Metal Sonic at White Park Zone however, they noticed that Eggman had already begun building the Death Egg mk.II around Little Planet. By the time Sonic and Tails gave chase to Eggman and Metal Sonic after escaping the exploding Sky Fortress, the Death Egg mk.II had been completed, with Little Planet trapped inside it. After getting onboard the Death Egg mk.II though, Sonic and Tails destroyed Eggman’s final contraption, thus triggering a chain reaction that shut down the Death Egg mk.II. However, the space station remained intact, with Little Planet left inside it.
